Interim Additional Learning Support Manager (Further Education)

About the role

This interim position works with the Senior Management Team to ensure the Additional Learning Support (ALS) provision meets statutory obligations and delivers high‑quality outcomes for learners in further education. You will lead the ALS team through the annual cycle, manage external agency support and drive progress, achievement and progression for learners.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the ALS annual cycle, ensuring all statutory deadlines and Local Authority consultation processes are met.
• Take overall responsibility for the delivery and documentation of learning support, aligning with learners' EHCPs and agreements with Local Authorities.
• Manage timetabling, staff deployment and accommodation, coordinating with curriculum and wider college teams to meet funding targets.
• Track attendance, progress and achievement; implement timely interventions to support learner outcomes.
• Facilitate effective communication with vocational, English and Maths teams to ensure joint working and information flow.
• Drive targets for learner retention, achievement and progression into positive destinations, including high‑quality Annual Reviews.

Required profile

• Proven record of managing quality processes and systems within a further education environment.
• Experience contributing to high‑quality outcomes measured by retention, achievement and progression.
• Understanding of funding methodologies and qualification frameworks.
• Strong analytical ability to use management information for performance improvement.
• Background in Additional Learning Support or SEND within a college setting.
