Interim Associate Director of Finance

About the role

Altum Consulting is seeking an Interim Associate Director of Finance to lead the finance function of a well‑established children’s charity for an initial six‑month fixed‑term. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will shape financial strategy, ensure robust governance and provide insight to senior leadership during a critical period.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver a financial strategy aligned with organisational priorities.
• Provide high‑quality financial insight, analysis and forecasting to support senior decision‑making.
• Oversee financial control, statutory reporting, audit, compliance, risk management and internal governance.
• Translate organisational strategy into clear finance plans, reporting and operational priorities.
• Lead, develop and support a high‑performing finance team, including the Head of FP&A and Head of Finance Operations.
• Champion effective use of financial systems, technology, data and process improvement.
• Contribute to organisation‑wide leadership, challenge and continuous improvement.
• Build strong internal and external relationships to support financial strategy and best practice.

Required profile

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Significant senior finance leadership experience, ideally within the charity or not‑for‑profit sector.
• Strong background in financial management, governance, planning and reporting.
• Proven experience leading finance teams and improving finance functions.
• Confidence working with senior stakeholders, including CEOs, Boards and leadership teams.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide clear insight, challenge and advice.
