Interim Charity Financial Controller

About the role

This interim position offers a technically strong Financial Controller the chance to support a globally recognised conservation charity operating across roughly 20 international offices. You will work closely with the outgoing controller to ensure a seamless handover and provide stability for the finance function during the transition period.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the month‑end close process and oversee global balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Review and approve payment runs and payroll submissions.
• Ensure financial reporting is accurate, timely and compliant with statutory requirements.
• Lead statutory accounting duties and support the annual audit process.
• Review financial submissions from international offices and maintain robust controls.
• Act as the senior escalation point for finance queries across the organisation.
• Lead and develop a small transactional finance team.
• Assist with onboarding and handover to a permanent Financial Controller where applicable.

Required profile

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification (or equivalent).
• Proven experience as a Financial Controller or Senior Finance Manager.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge, particularly UK GAAP and FRS 102.
• Experience managing statutory accounts, year‑end audits and balance‑sheet controls.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and develop finance teams.
• Excellent stakeholder management and relationship‑building skills.
• Proactive, self‑sufficient and comfortable operating autonomously.
