Interim Head of Waste Services

About the role

The Interim Head of Waste will lead the Waste Service across Truro, overseeing a team of 38 staff and three Group Leaders. Reporting to the Service Director, you will embed the new service structure and drive strategic delivery of the client’s Waste & Resources Strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Provide visible leadership for the Waste Service and manage three Group Leaders.
• Implement the Waste & Resources Strategy and associated delivery plan.
• Oversee contracts for waste collection, cleansing and infrastructure, ensuring value for money.
• Manage a £95 million budget with robust financial controls and savings targets.
• Lead critical projects that improve service performance, compliance and future development.
• Engage with elected members, senior stakeholders and partners, offering strategic advice.
• Ensure statutory obligations and environmental objectives are met.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in waste, environmental or related public services.
• Strong track record of managing large budgets and complex contracts.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Ability to drive strategic change and deliver project outcomes.
