IP & Brand Counsel – Legal & Compliance

About the role

This newly created position sits within JD Worldwide’s International Legal and Compliance Department. The role supports the company’s rapid expansion across the UK and EU by safeguarding intellectual property and brand assets throughout retail and marketplace operations.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on trademarks, copyright and design rights, protecting JD’s portfolio and managing infringement risk.
• Shape brand‑authorisation strategies, draft and negotiate reseller, licensing and distribution agreements, and serve as the primary contact for brands on the platform.
• Support brand‑protection and marketplace teams on third‑party IP risks, including counterfeit, infringing listings and grey‑market goods.
• Oversee notice‑and‑takedown, counter‑notice processes and ensure compliance with the Digital Services Act.
• Handle pre‑litigation matters such as cease‑and‑desist letters and settlements.
• Provide guidance on brand, labeling, advertising and copyright use in content and imagery.
• Collaborate with commercial, category and seller‑onboarding teams to embed IP requirements into listings.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor or lawyer (England & Wales or equivalent EU jurisdiction) with 7‑10 years post‑qualification experience.
• Strong background in IP and brand protection, preferably with both law‑firm and in‑house experience.
• Knowledge of trademark, copyright law and anti‑counterfeit practices in an online or retail setting.
• Experience drafting and negotiating distribution, licensing and authorisation agreements at scale.
• Familiarity with platform liability and the IP aspects of the DSA is a plus.
• Highly organised, action‑oriented and able to work under pressure.
