Island Nurse – Hoy

About the role

The Island Nurse will join a small health team on Hoy, delivering community and practice nursing services to a remote island population of around 388 residents. This role offers the chance to develop broad generalist skills while working in a supportive, peer‑connected environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan and monitor the quality of health care across the community lifespan.
• Provide community and practice nursing services, including urgent and routine care.
• Collaborate with GPs and other clinicians via weekly Teams meetings to share knowledge and reduce professional isolation.
• Work autonomously without immediate hospital resources, ensuring safe and effective care delivery.

Required profile

• Adaptable, resourceful and professionally accountable.
• Experienced Band 6 nurse with up‑to‑date clinical knowledge.
• Motivated to work in a remote, rural setting and develop a wide range of skills.
• Non‑medical prescribing qualification (essential).
