Junior Clinical Fellow (FY2) – Neurosurgery

About the role
This is a 12‑month fixed‑term position for a Junior Clinical Fellow (FY2) within the Department of Neurosurgery at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. The role starts in August 2026 and involves providing in‑patient ward care for neurosurgical patients on a rotating shift pattern that includes early/late days, nights, weekends and on‑call duties.
Key responsibilities
- Assess admissions and manage acute neurosurgical patients on the ward and in HDU.
- Organise and collate test results, and complete immediate discharge summaries.
- Participate in on‑call and out‑of‑hours rotas as part of a 10‑person FY2 team.
- Attend in‑house meetings in neuro‑surgery and neuro‑radiology.
- Collaborate with senior consultants and specialist registrars (SPRs) for multidisciplinary care.
Required profile
- Full GMC registration and a licence to practise in the UK.
- Completion of a UK foundation programme within the last 3.5 years (or a valid CREST form).
- Junior doctor experience in medical and surgical receiving.
- Willingness to work flexible shift patterns, including nights and weekends.
Required skills
- Clinical assessment of acute neurosurgical patients.
- Acute patient management on ward and HDU.
- Discharge summary documentation.
- Test result collation and interpretation.
