About the role

This is a 12‑month fixed‑term position for a Junior Clinical Fellow (FY2) within the Department of Neurosurgery at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. The role starts in August 2026 and involves providing in‑patient ward care for neurosurgical patients on a rotating shift pattern that includes early/late days, nights, weekends and on‑call duties.

Key responsibilities

  • Assess admissions and manage acute neurosurgical patients on the ward and in HDU.
  • Organise and collate test results, and complete immediate discharge summaries.
  • Participate in on‑call and out‑of‑hours rotas as part of a 10‑person FY2 team.
  • Attend in‑house meetings in neuro‑surgery and neuro‑radiology.
  • Collaborate with senior consultants and specialist registrars (SPRs) for multidisciplinary care.

Required profile

  • Full GMC registration and a licence to practise in the UK.
  • Completion of a UK foundation programme within the last 3.5 years (or a valid CREST form).
  • Junior doctor experience in medical and surgical receiving.
  • Willingness to work flexible shift patterns, including nights and weekends.

Required skills

  • Clinical assessment of acute neurosurgical patients.
  • Acute patient management on ward and HDU.
  • Discharge summary documentation.
  • Test result collation and interpretation.
