Junior Cyber Security Analyst

About the role

The British Red Cross is looking for a Junior Cyber Security Analyst to support day-to-day cyber security operations and the first-line defence of its digital environment. The role covers monitoring and triaging security alerts and service tickets, performing initial analysis and supporting incident response. It is an entry-level position with a steep learning curve, based in the UK with flexible hybrid working.

Key responsibilities

• Daily monitoring of security dashboards, alerts and logs, triaging them to filter false positives and prioritise genuine threats
• Analyse security events and incidents (suspicious emails, malware alerts, unusual user activity) using standard procedures and escalate complex cases to senior team members
• Run automated vulnerability scans, assess severity and follow up with system owners until critical vulnerabilities are fixed
• Handle security service requests and incidents in IT service management tools, keeping tickets within agreed SLAs
• Take part in on-the-job training and development

Required profile

• Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail and methodical approach to procedures and deadlines
• Ability to troubleshoot technical issues under guidance and to work in a team
• Ability to organise and prioritise workload in a busy operational environment
• Practical experience or voluntary involvement in security and/or IT projects (desirable)

Required skills

• Basic understanding of IT and cyber security fundamentals: how computers, networks and operating systems work
• Awareness of common concepts such as malware, phishing, firewalls and multi-factor authentication

• Salary of £33,517 to £38,324 per year, plus London living allowance if working in London
