Lawyer – Any Practice Area (Leeds)

About the role

The Legists is seeking qualified lawyers to join its team in Leeds, working across a wide range of legal disciplines for the Government Legal Department. You will advise ministers and departmental officials, provide guidance on complex legal matters, and manage a diverse caseload that impacts public policy and services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and guidance to government departments on litigation, advisory, commercial, employment and EU legislation matters.
• Collaborate with senior officials, ministers and other legal professionals to develop risk‑based solutions.
• Handle a varied caseload, ensuring high‑quality, customer‑focused service.
• Move between advisory, litigation, employment and commercial law areas as required.
• Communicate complex legal issues clearly to build trust with stakeholders.

Required profile

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive.
• Strategic and creative thinker with strong analytical judgement.
• Open‑minded, impartial and able to stand by decisions.
• Collaborative, able to work at pace and deliver high‑quality outcomes.
• For London postings, DV security clearance may be required.
