Lead Analytics Consultant

Job description
About the role
The Strategic Data & Analytics team builds analytical products that support growth across Howden Employee Benefits, working alongside consultants, client directors and project teams rather than in a traditional IT function. As Lead Analytics Consultant you will own delivery end to end and lead the reusable components, frameworks, templates and working practices that let a small team serve the whole business. The role is not software engineering or IT, and location is flexible, with home-based or local office options.
Key responsibilities
- Work with senior leaders and client-facing colleagues to turn a broad commercial question into a defined, decidable one, and turn the answer into a product rather than a one-off analysis.
- Own delivery of analytical products end to end, from first conversations to production use.
- Lead the development of reusable components, libraries, frameworks, templates and working practices, keeping them configurable, documented and maintainable by others.
- Work within the firm's software development lifecycle and governance, and help shape them where they do not yet fit a small product team.
- Support colleagues' technical development, including reviewing their work (not a line management role).
- Keep delivery momentum when priorities shift.
Required profile
- Consulting mindset, enjoying a wide variety of problems and helping senior leaders make better decisions with data, analytics and visualisation.
- Able to explain technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable with uncertainty, speed and incomplete information, and effective in a distributed team working mainly over Teams.
- Has taken more than one analytical product from an incomplete brief to sustained use, and has built reusable parts that colleagues have used.
- Experience of Employee Benefits, Pensions or Insurance is not required.
Required skills
- Substantial experience building analytical products in Python.
- Stack: Python, Shiny, Quarto, git, Azure DevOps, Docker-based deployment and Terraform; close equivalents such as R, Shiny, the tidyverse, Streamlit, Dash or scientific computing are acceptable.
- Able to build without AI coding agents, reading, writing, debugging and reviewing code yourself.
What we offer
- A career you define, with reasonable adjustments such as flexible hours or hybrid working where possible.
- Permanent position.
