Lead Android Engineer – Hybrid, London

About the role

Capital One UK is looking for a Lead Android Engineer to drive the development of its native mobile applications. Working within the mobile platform engineering team, you will set the technical direction for multiple Android squads, ensuring high‑quality, secure, and performant products that deliver great customer outcomes. The role is based in London with a hybrid schedule – three days in‑office and two days remote.

Key responsibilities

• Define and own the architecture of the Android app and related backend orchestration services.
• Lead, mentor and coach a team of Android engineers, fostering best‑practice coding, testing and delivery.
• Collaborate with product, design and other engineering disciplines to shape new features and product iterations.
• Drive automation through CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and infrastructure as code using AWS.
• Advocate for quality practices such as pair programming, TDD and BDD.

Required skills

• Kotlin and Java for Android development.
• Android Studio and the Android toolset.
• Testing frameworks such as JUnit and Espresso.
• Experience with AWS cloud services.
