Lead Design Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Lead Design Engineer to drive the design and delivery of large‑scale mechanical projects. You will work within a well‑established engineering business, supporting sectors such as Oil & Gas and Power.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of mechanical projects from concept to completion.
• Produce and review detailed drawings, 3D models and technical documentation.
• Oversee material handling, heavy fabrication, welding and site installation activities.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, production and site teams to ensure practical, efficient solutions.
• Ensure designs meet engineering standards, specifications and health & safety requirements.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Liaise with customers, suppliers and internal departments to secure successful project delivery.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Lead or Senior Design Engineer.
• Degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Ideally 10 years in engineering and design environments.
• Minimum 3 years in material handling, heavy fabrication, welding or large‑scale project delivery.
• Experience in Oil & Gas, Power or other heavy‑industry sectors.
• Strong problem‑solving, communication and organisational abilities.
• Full UK driving licence (desirable).
