Learning Support Assistant Specialist – SEND School

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant Specialist to join a specialist SEND school in Lewisham from September 2026. The role involves supporting pupils with complex needs, including autism, severe and profound learning difficulties, and sensory challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils with complex SEND needs.
• Assist with communication, emotional regulation, personal care and sensory interventions.
• Implement behaviour management strategies and support positive behaviour plans.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists and support staff to deliver tailored learning programmes.
• Monitor, record and report pupil progress and achievements.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with children or adults with complex SEND needs.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Calm, patient, adaptable and able to work in a challenging environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.

Required skills

• Team Teach training.
• MAPA positive behaviour management training.
• Knowledge of PECS and Makaton communication methods.
