About the role

The University of Edinburgh’s School of Mathematics is seeking a Lecturer in Statistics to join its vibrant research and teaching community. This permanent position offers the chance to shape a new MSc in Statistics with Artificial Intelligence and to develop an internationally recognised research programme.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in statistics, including course design and supervision of dissertations and projects.
• Establish an independent research agenda in statistical methodology, with a focus on statistical computing and AI/ML integration.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across Informatics, Engineering, Geosciences, and Genetics.
• Contribute to the School’s Data & Decisions Theme and participate in departmental service and governance.

Required profile

• PhD in Statistics or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated track record of high‑quality, internationally recognised research.
• Strong commitment to excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
