Legal Counsel – Litigation (Financial Services)

About the role

We are partnering with a fast‑growing consumer lender to recruit their first qualified lawyer specialising in financial services litigation. The role is hands‑on, focusing on defending and managing a range of disputes related to debt recovery, Section 75 claims and fraud.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and defend claims arising from debt recovery, consumer credit and fraud disputes.
• Oversee the paralegal function, providing guidance and supervision.
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure legal compliance across the business.
• Utilise AI‑driven claim tools where applicable.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years post‑qualification experience (PQE) in England and Wales.
• Qualified solicitor (barristers also considered) with proven experience in financial services disputes, especially debt recovery and consumer credit.
• Current experience within a lender, consumer credit business or broader financial services environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work with stakeholders and supervise junior staff.
• Experience with AI‑driven claims processes is advantageous.
