Legal Counsel – Markets Regulation

About the role

Join a highly regarded Markets Advisory function, providing strategic legal and regulatory advice across a broad range of Global Markets products. You will work closely with Trading, Compliance, Operations and senior business stakeholders, advising on complex regulatory developments in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on legal and regulatory issues relating to derivatives, repo and securities lending.
• Provide guidance on EMIR, UK EMIR Margin Rules, MiFID II, FCA/PRA requirements and relevant US regulatory frameworks.
• Support implementation and interpretation of evolving regulatory requirements across Global Markets.
• Advise on clearing arrangements, transaction reporting and capital‑related regulatory issues.
• Draft, review and negotiate market documentation, including terms of business and regulatory disclosures.
• Partner with internal stakeholders across Legal, Compliance, Front Office and Operations on complex regulatory matters.
• Contribute to legal know‑how initiatives and help shape best practice across the wider legal function.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer or equivalent legal qualification.
• Strong experience advising on regulatory matters within an investment bank, financial institution or leading private practice.
• Experience with derivatives, repo and securities lending transactions.
• In‑depth knowledge of EMIR, MiFID II and broader Global Markets regulation.
• Excellent commercial judgement and a pragmatic, solutions‑focused approach.
• Ability to manage complex legal issues while building strong relationships with senior stakeholders.
• Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills.
