Legal Counsel, Technology, Commercial & Litigation

About the role

This position sits within the Technology, Commercial and Litigation team of the Legal, Secretariat, Public Affairs and Corporate Sustainability function. The Legal Counsel will advise the Aberdeen Group globally on contentious and potentially contentious matters, including litigation, investigations, regulatory issues and complex commercial arrangements.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and support on litigation, disputes, investigations and regulatory matters across jurisdictions.
• Manage risk identification and mitigation for critical technology, AI deployment and digital infrastructure arrangements.
• Draft, review and negotiate complex commercial contracts and strategic agreements.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, external counsel and LSPS colleagues to align legal strategy with commercial objectives.
• Support modern ways of working, including the responsible use of technology and AI‑enabled tools, process improvement and knowledge sharing.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with substantial experience in technology, commercial and litigation matters.
• Proven ability to operate confidently across jurisdictions and at senior stakeholder level.
• Strong commercial judgement and the capacity to handle high‑pressure or sensitive situations such as incident management.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Expertise in litigation, regulatory and commercial contract law.
• Knowledge of legal issues related to technology, AI and digital infrastructure.
• Experience working with external counsel and managing cross‑border legal matters.
