Level 3 Materials Technician Apprentice – Geotechnics

About the role

Join Geotechnics as a Level 3 Materials Technician Apprentice, supporting the day‑to‑day running of a UKAS‑accredited laboratory that provides soil testing for foundations, slopes, roads and earthworks.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and carry out a variety of soil laboratory tests to required standards.
• Accurately record test data on sheets and ensure proper calibration of equipment.
• Log, catalogue and store incoming samples and manage sample dispatch for subcontract testing.
• Maintain cleanliness of equipment, follow health‑and‑safety procedures and support the laboratory team.

Required profile

• Curious about material behaviour and motivated to develop a career in materials testing.
• Able to work accurately with repeatable tasks, follow standard test methods and handle occasional heavy lifting.
• Good health‑and‑safety awareness, communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Basic laboratory testing techniques for soils.
• Sample preparation, handling and cataloguing.
• Use and calibration of laboratory equipment.

• Starting salary £18,000 per year, rising to National Minimum/Living Wage after 12 months.
