Litigation Lawyer – Corporate Governance

About the role

Trafford Council is seeking a qualified Litigation Lawyer to join its busy Litigation Legal Team. Working from Trafford Town Hall on a hybrid basis, you will support a wide range of legal matters across the council and develop expertise in corporate governance and public sector litigation.

Key responsibilities

• Handle criminal and civil litigation, including advocacy and court representation.
• Provide advice on licensing law, public protection, employment law, and regulatory enforcement.
• Manage anti‑social behaviour, community safety, housing, and local authority rate disputes.
• Lead in‑quests, debt recovery, commercial disputes, GDPR, data protection and freedom of information requests.
• Represent the Legal Services team at committee meetings and liaise with external organisations.
• Support senior council officers and ensure statutory compliance.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor, barrister or Chartered Lawyer/Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives with a current practising certificate.
• Demonstrated experience in one or more of the listed legal areas.
• Ability to develop high‑level, complex and sensitive legal advice.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and partnership building skills.
• Up‑to‑date knowledge of national trends, policy and legislation affecting local government.
