Litigation Lawyer – Public Sector

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Litigation Lawyer to join our shared Legal Practice that supports Cambridge City Council, South Cambridgeshire District Council and Huntingdonshire District Council. This role offers the chance to work on high‑impact public‑sector cases and contribute to the delivery of quality legal services for local communities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clear, practical legal advice to council officers within your assigned areas.
• Take ownership of litigation matters, managing cases from inception to resolution in County Court, High Court and tribunals.
• Conduct legal research, draft and adapt documents, precedents and procedures, and produce original legal analysis.
• Support Principal and Senior Lawyers on complex matters and broader service delivery.
• Maintain accurate time‑recording, meet performance standards and contribute to income targets.
• Participate in team meetings, training, and service‑improvement projects.

Required profile

• A qualified lawyer (Solicitor, Barrister, Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives) or a candidate working towards SQE, BPTC/BVC, CILEx or equivalent qualification.
• Demonstrated litigation experience in a public or private sector context.
• Strong organisational skills, proactive attitude and commitment to excellent client service.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a dynamic team.
