Locum Consultant – Paediatric Neurosurgery (12‑month contract)

About the role

The Trust is seeking a Locum Consultant to join the Paediatric Neurosurgery team for a fixed‑term 12‑month contract, delivering emergency and elective care for children with cranial and spinal pathologies.

Key responsibilities

• Provide routine and emergency paediatric neurosurgical care across the Trust’s hospitals.
• Participate in a 1:4 on‑call rota, assuming responsibility for all admitted paediatric neurosurgery patients.
• Teach undergraduate medical students, junior doctors and specialist trainees, and contribute to multidisciplinary teaching.
• Engage in clinical audit, research activity and governance meetings, supporting evidence‑based practice.

Required profile

• Full neurosurgical training (FRCS or equivalent) with a subspecialty fellowship in paediatric neurosurgery.
• Holder of the Specialist Register for neurosurgery at the time of interview.
• Post‑graduate research qualification (Masters or PhD preferred) to lead departmental research.
• Willingness to work across Trust sites, including John Radcliffe Hospital, Banbury or Witney as needed.
