Locum Planning and Highways Lawyer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced planning and highways lawyer to provide interim legal support to a busy local authority in the East Midlands. The role is primarily remote and can be full‑time or part‑time over a 3‑6 month period.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and negotiate Section 106 agreements.
• Draft highways agreements under Sections 38 and 278 of the Highways Act.
• Advise on complex planning and highways matters.
• Provide policy and strategic planning advice.
• Deliver general legal advice related to planning and highways law.
• Support officers and stakeholders with a broad range of planning issues.

Required profile

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive (or equivalent).
• At least 5 years post‑qualification experience, preferably in planning law.
• Strong experience drafting Section 106 agreements.
• Desirable experience preparing Section 38/278 agreements and working within local government.

Required skills

• Expertise in planning law and related legislation.
• Knowledge of highways law and the Highways Act.
• Ability to draft and negotiate complex legal agreements.
