Locum Social Worker – Family Court Adviser (CAFCASS)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Children’s Social Worker to join CAFCASS as a Locum Social Worker within their Private or Public Law team in Coventry. You will provide expert advice to family courts, ensuring children’s safety and best interests are central to every decision.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and analyse court applications for child protection and welfare issues.
• Advise the family courts on what is safe for children and act in their best interests.
• Negotiate persuasively with families and professionals on behalf of children.
• Maintain focus on the child’s journey and advocate for their voice in court proceedings.

Required profile

• 2‑5 years of experience in a similar social work setting.
• Registered with Social Work England.
• Experience in both Public and Private Law, including producing Section 7 and discharge of care reports.
• Ability to manage full and complex caseloads.
• Child‑focused with relationship‑based and systemic practice.
• Strong knowledge of risks faced by children and families.

Required skills

• IT proficiency.
