Maintenance Assistant – Dumfries

About the role

The Estates & Property Services Department of NHS Dumfries and Galloway is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to join the team on a defined shift pattern. You will support the safe and effective operation of mechanical and electrical plant across multiple sites.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out fault finding and minor repairs on a variety of equipment.
• Change medical gas cylinders and perform fire alarm testing and replacement of break glasses.
• Operate and maintain boiler plant and chemical dosing plant safely.
• Use computer‑based boiler management systems to record and monitor plant performance.
• Travel independently between sites, suppliers and wholesalers as required.

Required profile

• Good verbal and non‑verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work flexibly and adapt to variations in the standard working week.
• Awareness of health and safety legislation and technical standards.

Required skills

• Fault finding and minor repair techniques.
• Medical gas cylinder handling.
• Fire alarm testing and break‑glass replacement.
• Boiler plant operation.
• Chemical dosing plant operation.
• Use of boiler management software.
