Maintenance Operative – Handyperson for Oxford College

About the role

We are seeking a reliable Maintenance Operative to join a prestigious Oxford college. The role is permanent, full‑time and involves a wide range of hands‑on tasks across several campus buildings.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out minor plumbing repairs and maintain heating, hot and cold‑water systems.
• Perform basic carpentry work such as fixing doors, windows and furniture.
• Replace faulty white goods and other appliances.
• Undertake general painting and install or replace kitchen units.
• Clear blocked drains and conduct fire‑alarm testing.
• Inspect and test lifts and elevators.
• Maintain grounds including lawn mowing, hedge trimming and weeding.
• Travel between multiple college sites using a company vehicle.
• Be on‑call one week out of every five weeks for emergency incidents.

Required profile

• Proven experience in general building maintenance or a similar handyperson role.
• Full, clean driving licence.
• Ability to work independently and respond to on‑call emergencies.
• Willingness to travel between sites within Oxford.
