Manufacturing Buyer – Steel & Metal Components

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Buyer to lead the procurement of steel, metal components and engineering materials for a busy production environment. You will work closely with Operations, Production and Stores to ensure timely, cost‑effective supply of critical items.

Key responsibilities

• Source and purchase steel, metal components, fabricated parts and engineering consumables.
• Raise and manage purchase orders for raw materials, consumables and subcontract services.
• Negotiate pricing, lead times and commercial terms with suppliers.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with steel stockholders and engineering suppliers.
• Monitor supplier performance, quality, delivery and cost.
• Collaborate with Production, Operations and Stores to forecast purchasing requirements.
• Identify cost‑saving opportunities and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Resolve supply chain issues quickly to minimise production disruption.
• Maintain accurate purchasing records using the company’s ERP/MRP system.

Required profile

• Significant purchasing experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
• Proven track record of procuring steel, metal components and fabricated parts.
• Strong negotiation skills and ability to manage supplier lead times.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational abilities.
