Marketplace Legal and Regulatory Counsel

About the role

This newly created position sits within JD Worldwide’s International Legal and Compliance Department. The role supports the rapid expansion of the marketplace across the UK and EU, ensuring that third‑party sellers, consumer obligations and regulator expectations are met.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and continuously develop marketplace policies, terms and conditions.
• Collaborate with the marketplace team to embed legal and regulatory requirements into daily operations.
• Guide compliance with the Digital Services Act and other EU/UK online marketplace rules.
• Advise on consumer protection, product safety and platform‑liability matters.
• Define the platform’s stance on third‑party listings and manage actions against non‑compliant sellers.
• Serve as the primary contact for regulators, assessing enforcement risk and mitigation strategies.
• Monitor takedown actions and ensure consistent resolution of seller and listing issues.
• Partner with privacy, IP, brand and product teams to align marketplace compliance across the business.
• Track emerging UK and EU marketplace regulations and flag relevant developments.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor or lawyer in England & Wales or an equivalent EU jurisdiction (dual qualification is a plus).
• 8‑12 years post‑qualification experience, preferably with e‑commerce or marketplace exposure.
• Experience in a recognised law firm combined with in‑house work at a scaled e‑commerce, retail or consumer‑facing business.
• Strong knowledge of consumer law and the EU digital rulebook, especially the Digital Services Act.
• Fluency in a second EU language (German, French, Dutch, Spanish or Portuguese) is advantageous.
• Proven ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into clear commercial advice.
• Highly organised, action‑oriented and comfortable working in a fast‑moving, evolving environment.
