Material and Inventory Planner

About the role

As a Material and Inventory Planner at Babcock’s Devonport Royal Dockyard, you will ensure that the right materials are available at the right time to keep complex engineering and defence programmes running smoothly. You will work within a dynamic defence environment where your planning decisions directly support operational readiness and national security.

Key responsibilities

• Manage material planning orders and inventory using SAP and other ERP systems.
• Analyse demand and align inventory levels with operational requirements.
• Expedite materials to keep production and project schedules on track.
• Collaborate with project, production and supply‑chain teams to enable timely delivery.
• Identify and mitigate supply risks through forward planning and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in inventory planning and stock‑control techniques.
• Strong analytical and organisational abilities.
• Ability to take ownership of issues and drive them to resolution.
• Understanding of continuous‑improvement principles.
• Minimum Level 2 NVQ (or equivalent) and ability to obtain Standard (BPSS) security clearance.

Required skills

• SAP (or similar ERP) proficiency.
• Experience with material planning systems such as MRP or MPS.
