Mechanical Design Engineer – Consumer & Medical Products

About the role

We are partnering with a leading product‑innovation consultancy to find a Mechanical Design Engineer who will drive projects from concept through to manufacture for consumer and medical products. The role is based in London and offers a full‑time, permanent contract.

Key responsibilities

• Lead client communication and manage project delivery, including budgets and timelines.
• Interpret briefs, define requirements and develop innovative engineering concepts.
• Produce robust designs using 3D CAD, FEA/CFD, mathematical modelling and prototype testing.
• Support system‑level engineering across structures, mechanisms, thermo‑fluids and manufacturing.
• Create manufacturing specifications, detailed drawings and tolerance analyses.
• Ensure compliance with quality and regulatory standards.

Required profile

• Degree (1st or 2:1) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of engineering project experience, preferably in a consultancy environment.
• Strong communication and stakeholder‑management abilities.
• Commercial awareness and ability to build long‑term client relationships.

Required skills

• SolidWorks and advanced 3D CAD proficiency.
• FEA and CFD simulation experience, including tolerance calculations.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes: machining, moulding, fabrication, casting and assembly.
• Structural analysis, mechanisms and fluid‑system expertise.
• Electronics/firmware integration exposure, Arduino and Python programming.
• Hands‑on prototyping, testing and assembly skills.
