Mechanical & Electrical Manager – Interim (5‑6 months)

About the role

This interim position leads the delivery of mechanical and electrical services for a local authority housing portfolio in Berkshire. You will be responsible for overseeing gas, plumbing and electrical workstreams, ensuring compliance, quality and customer focus across reactive repairs, planned maintenance and external contracts.

Key responsibilities

• Lead operational delivery of M&E services across the housing stock.
• Manage multidisciplinary teams of supervisors, operatives and subcontractors.
• Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations and building legislation.
• Drive performance against KPIs and embed a “right first time” culture.
• Control budget, workforce planning and service efficiency.
• Analyse performance data to identify trends and implement continuous improvement.
• Handle escalated complaints, member enquiries and employee relations matters.
• Support and lead service transformation initiatives.

Required profile

• HNC or higher qualification in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering.
• Strong experience within housing, local authority or property services.
• Proven track record managing large teams, contractors and operational delivery.
• In‑depth knowledge of M&E compliance, statutory regulations and health & safety standards.
• Experience managing budgets and delivering value for money.
• Excellent leadership, stakeholder engagement and problem‑solving skills.
• Proactive, results‑driven approach to service delivery and improvement.
