Mechanical & Electrical Manager – Local Authority (5‑6 month contract)

About the role

This interim position leads the delivery of mechanical and electrical services for a local authority housing portfolio in Berkshire. You will ensure that gas, plumbing and electrical work meets high‑quality, safety and compliance standards while supporting both reactive repairs and planned maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee operational delivery of M&E services across the housing stock.
• Manage multidisciplinary teams of supervisors, operatives and subcontractors.
• Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations and building legislation.
• Drive performance against KPIs and embed a “right first time” culture.
• Control budgets, workforce planning and service efficiency.
• Analyse performance data to identify trends and implement continuous improvement.
• Handle escalated complaints, member enquiries and employee relations matters.
• Support service transformation initiatives.

Required profile

• HNC or higher qualification in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering.
• Extensive experience in housing, local authority or property services.
• Proven track record managing large teams, contractors and operational delivery.
• Strong knowledge of M&E compliance, statutory regulations and health & safety standards.
• Experience of budget management and delivering value for money.
