Mechanical Engineering Lead – up to £85k DOE

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Lead to own and develop the mechanical engineering capability within a fast‑growing advanced technology organisation. You will shape strategy, mentor a talented team and stay close to technical delivery across complex product development.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high‑performing mechanical engineering team.
• Define and improve tools, processes and best‑practice design standards.
• Support career development and mentorship for engineers.
• Collaborate with senior technical leaders to deliver high‑quality outcomes.
• Drive mechanical design excellence, product lifecycle management and external partner collaboration.
• Champion continuous improvement across people, systems and delivery.

Required profile

• Strong experience in mechanical engineering leadership or team management.
• Hands‑on mechanical design background.
• Proficiency with CAD tools, particularly SolidWorks.
• Knowledge of design reviews, documentation, BoM structures and product lifecycle processes.
• Collaborative, practical approach to solving technical challenges.
• Interest in mentoring, coaching and building team capability.
• Experience with FEA, DFM, GD&T, project delivery, NPI or external suppliers is a plus.
