Mechanical Technician – Hospital Building Services

About the role

The NHS Ayrshire and Arran is seeking a Mechanical Technician to join the engineering team at Ayrshire Central Hospital in Irvine. This permanent position works within a supportive, caring environment, delivering essential mechanical services across the hospital and community premises.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex mechanical engineering maintenance tasks in a hospital setting.
• Support heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) and decontamination systems.
• Participate in an on‑call rota and provide coverage for other hospitals in Ayrshire as required.
• Report directly to the Mechanical Supervisor and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Required profile

• Completion of a recognised apprenticeship with extensive experience in mechanical maintenance.
• City & Guilds Craft Certificate or Level 3 equivalent in the relevant trade.
• Valid UK driving licence and ability to travel to multiple sites.
• Willingness to live within 30 minutes of the hospital to meet on‑call requirements.
