Medical Officer – Alcohol & Drug Recovery Services

About the role

The Medical Officer will join a specialist community alcohol and drug treatment service in South Glasgow. Working within multidisciplinary teams, you will provide holistic care to individuals with substance misuse issues, supporting their health and social recovery.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and review patients with drug and/or alcohol dependency.
• Prescribe substitute medication, manage detoxification and relapse‑prevention regimens.
• Provide testing and treatment for Hepatitis C and HIV.
• Collaborate with health and social care partners to deliver integrated care pathways.
• Participate in service development initiatives such as diamorphine‑assisted treatment and community‑based rehabilitation.

Required profile

• Qualified medical doctor with registration to practise in the UK.
• Experience in addiction medicine, substance misuse, or related community health settings.
• Commitment to delivering patient‑centred care within a multidisciplinary team.
• Willingness to work a 24‑hour shift pattern on a part‑time basis.

Required skills

• Substitute prescribing and detoxification management.
• Hepatitis C and HIV testing and treatment.
• Clinical assessment of substance misuse.
