Mental Health Assistant (Aspiring Psychologist) – Thatcham

About the role
We are looking for a Psychology graduate or aspiring mental‑health professional to join a specialist school in Thatcham. The Mental Health Assistant will support pupils with anxiety, trauma, ADHD, autism and other behavioural challenges, helping them develop emotional regulation and confidence.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to students with social, emotional and mental‑health needs.
- Assist in the implementation of behaviour support plans and emotional regulation strategies.
- Work alongside teachers, therapists, psychologists and SEN specialists to create a safe learning environment.
- Observe and learn therapeutic approaches used within the educational setting.
Required profile
- Recent graduate in Psychology or a related discipline.
- Strong interest in pursuing a career in clinical, educational or child psychology.
- Empathetic, proactive and able to build trusting relationships with young people.
Required skills
- Basic understanding of mental‑health concepts and therapeutic techniques.
- Ability to follow guidance from senior professionals and adhere to safeguarding policies.
What we offer
- Full‑time, Monday‑Friday schedule (8:30 am – 3:30 pm) with an immediate start.
- Competitive daily rate of £90‑£105.
- Hands‑on experience within a multidisciplinary team, ideal for building a career in psychology or counselling.
