Mental Health Assistant – Specialist SEMH School (Reading)

About the role
This full‑time position supports young people aged 11‑16 with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs in a specialist school in Reading. You will work alongside experienced professionals to deliver personalised support and help students thrive in a safe, caring environment.
Key responsibilities
- Assist students with a range of SEMH needs throughout the school day.
- Support group therapy sessions, wellbeing activities and recreational programmes.
- Encourage adherence to personalised support plans and daily routines.
- Provide consistent emotional support, encouragement and positive role modelling.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists and other staff to ensure a coordinated approach.
Required profile
- Experience supporting children, young people or vulnerable individuals.
- Caring, empathetic and compassionate attitude.
- Strong communication and active‑listening skills.
- Patience, resilience and ability to stay calm under pressure.
- Emotional maturity and genuine passion for helping others.
