About the role
The Specialty Training Programme Director for Pre‑Hospital Emergency Medicine will work with the Head of School for Medicine to lead the delivery of training functions aligned with the NHS England mandate and long‑term workforce plan. The position is a part‑time secondment to NHS England, undertaken alongside existing employment with an NHS Trust in the South West, and runs until 31 October 2027.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate the PHEM training programme across each region, typically hosted by the School of Emergency Medicine or the School of Anaesthesia.
- Improve learner supervision, assessment and experience to ensure high‑quality educational outcomes.
- Engage and develop faculty members to support the training programme.
- Align programme delivery with NHS England strategic objectives and the long‑term workforce plan.
- Collaborate with multi‑professional teams and the Head of School to drive continuous improvement.
Required profile
- Experienced clinician with a thorough understanding of medical education and training.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, able to work effectively within multi‑professional teams.
- Willingness to be based in the South West region and commit to a part‑time secondment.
- Commitment to delivering effective supervision, assessment and faculty engagement.
- Ability to contribute to strategic planning aligned with NHS England priorities.
