Mental Health Law Practitioner – Fixed Term (14 months)

About the role

Join Cygnet’s Salford Lodge to support the legal compliance of mental health services for women, including those with personality disorders. This 14‑month fixed‑term position ensures the Mental Health Act 1983 and Mental Capacity Act 2005 are correctly applied.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure all procedures related to the Mental Health Act and associated legislation are followed.
• Maintain legal detention records and safe storage of documentation.
• Receive and process section papers, correcting any errors to meet legal requirements.
• Inform patients and relatives of rights and assist with exercising those rights.
• Provide up‑to‑date lists of mental health solicitors and arrange representation at hearings or appeals.
• Attend ward rounds, organise and attend Care Programme Approach meetings, take minutes and produce reports.

Required profile

• Previous administration experience, including report preparation and meeting coordination.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• GCSE‑level education (or equivalent) with English and Maths qualifications.
• Exceptional organisational abilities.
• Experience in a healthcare environment and knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 are desirable.
