Modern Embedded C++ Software Engineer – Computer Vision

About the role

We are looking for a Modern Embedded C++ Software Engineer to join a specialist imaging technology business in Farnborough. The role focuses on developing and maintaining advanced imaging systems that combine embedded Linux, computer vision and AI. You will work closely with hardware and algorithm teams to deliver robust software for demanding operational environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain software primarily in modern C++ for embedded Linux platforms.
• Implement new features while supporting and enhancing existing product functionality.
• Maintain and improve build infrastructure (Yocto/Buildroot, CMake) and packaging processes.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and release automation using tools such as Jenkins.
• Create automated tests at unit, integration and system levels.
• Collaborate with hardware and algorithm teams throughout the product lifecycle.
• Investigate and resolve complex technical issues across the platform.

Required profile

• Several years of commercial experience developing software in Linux environments.
• Proven ability to own work from concept through delivery without extensive supervision.
• Strong understanding of software architecture and testing practices.

Required skills

• Modern C++ (C++11/14/17 or newer)
• Embedded Linux, preferably Yocto or Buildroot
• Python for scripting and tooling
• CMake and related build systems
• CI/CD tools such as Jenkins
• Docker or containerised development environments (nice to have)
• Networking protocols and low‑level hardware interfaces
• API development, e.g., GraphQL
• Python/C++ integration (e.g., pybind11)
