Nuclear Facilities Electrical Engineer

About the role

Babcock is recruiting a Nuclear Facilities Electrical Engineer for its engineering team at Devonport Royal Dockyard, near Plymouth. The team maintains, repairs and responds to faults on nuclear facilities, cranes and associated systems supporting UK defence infrastructure. The role suits an experienced Electrical Test Engineer or a qualified Electrical Fitter looking for the next step in their career.

The position is full time and permanent, based onsite at Devonport Royal Dockyard. It involves a flexible schedule including weekend shifts, with dayshifts (7:30am to 3:30pm) and backshifts (3:00pm to 11:00pm).

Key responsibilities

• Carry out inspection, testing, calibration and commissioning on nuclear facilities equipment and systems
• Diagnose faults and identify effective corrective solutions
• Coordinate maintenance, repair and breakdown activities in line with safety, quality, cost and time requirements
• Record defects, deficiencies and emergent work accurately
• Ensure compliance with nuclear safety standards, site licence conditions and engineering procedures

Required profile

• ONC or NVQ Level 3 (or higher) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering
• Experience maintaining, repairing or breaking down heavy-duty engineering systems
• Ability to work safely at height
• Flexibility to cover shift patterns, including occasional weekend work
• Strong communication skills across teams and stakeholders
• Ability to obtain and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance; eligibility may depend on place of birth, nationality and residency

Required skills

• Nuclear, electrical control and instrumentation, or crane maintenance experience desirable
• Testing, commissioning or fault-finding on complex electrical systems desirable
