Nuclear Technical Engineer

About the role

Amentum's Independent Assurance and Regulation (IA&R) group offers consultancy services to highly regulated industries, including research and technology programmes such as the UK Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme. Its Independent Nuclear Assurance (INA) team has supported the Ministry of Defence's naval nuclear propulsion programme for over sixty years. As a Nuclear Technical Engineer you will help deliver independent assurance services to the MoD, giving safety and technical advice for current and future submarine Naval Reactor Plants (NRP) and working with many technical disciplines.

Key responsibilities

• Provide authoritative advice to the MoD through safety and technical assessments.
• Support meetings with the MoD and its contractors.
• Coordinate output across a range of relevant technical disciplines.
• Work to the best applicable safety, technical and regulatory standards against agreed programmes and budgets.
• Follow business requirements for health, safety, environment and security, and seek continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Degree (Level 6, minimum) in science or engineering, or equivalent.
• Knowledge or operational experience of the Naval Reactor Plant is desirable.
• Knowledge of safety cases (structures and function).
• Familiarity with related documentation (NRPA NSMAs, DSA02-DNSR, ONR SAPs etc.).
• Security clearance held or obtainable in the UK.
• Enthusiasm for mechanical systems and structural integrity is welcomed.

Required skills

• Clear, concise technical writing and communication skills.
• General knowledge of NRP design and operation, safety case development and methodologies.
