Officer, General Counsel & Risk

About the role

Norton Rose Fulbright, a global law firm, is hiring an Officer, General Counsel & Risk for its General Counsel, New Business practice group. The role is based in Newcastle and reports to the Client Matter Intake (CMI) lead. It screens new business acceptance for the firm's EMEA PAC region against legal, contractual and commercial conflicts.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake conflict searches, analyse reports and escalate potential issues to escalation points.
• Take ownership of new business intake matters, carry out the full risk analysis and liaise with partners, associates, other Member Firms and other stakeholders, keeping interested parties informed at every stage.
• Ensure the firm complies with regulations such as AML Directives and the SRA Code of Conduct, and keep up to date with changes in the legal and regulatory landscape.
• Document analyses and issues accurately and implement recommendations that support adherence to governance standards.

Required profile

• At least 1 year of experience in a business, legal or related professional services firm.
• Interest in risk and compliance, with a focus on the commercial, political and risk issues affecting the business.
• Ability to work under pressure with support and to develop a working knowledge of other regions' professional rules.

Required skills

• Excellent computer skills, switching between database interfaces and online tools.
• Research aptitude and familiarity with online research tools.
• Ability to interpret and analyse complex datasets in line with regulatory frameworks and risk management principles, and to spot compliance gaps.
• Excellent written and oral communication, accuracy and attention to detail.
