Operational Risk Manager

About the role

Monzo is looking for an Operational Risk Manager to join its Risk & Compliance team. Working as a second‑line of defence, you will help embed the operational risk management framework across the business, focusing on operational resilience, financial processes, investment/wealth products, and regulatory initiatives such as ICAAP.

Key responsibilities

• Support the implementation and day‑to‑day operation of Monzo’s risk management framework, including risk and control self‑assessment.
• Partner with product, finance and wealth teams to embed risk practices into new features and products.
• Manage and follow up on risk events, collaborating with owners to identify controls and solutions.
• Conduct in‑depth reviews of business areas, technology adoption, and regulatory compliance.
• Assess changes to operational processes and their impact on the company’s risk profile.
• Analyse operational risk data (incidents, external events, losses) to surface trends and insights.
• Provide oversight and challenge to the first line of defence and report to oversight committees.

Required profile

• Proven experience in operational risk management within a regulated financial institution.
• Understanding of regulatory frameworks such as ICAAP and experience with risk and control self‑assessment processes.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams, especially Finance and Wealth/Investment departments.
• Strong analytical skills to interpret risk data and identify emerging trends.
