Payroll Clerk – Accountancy Practice (Manchester)

About the role

We are partnering with a well‑established accountancy practice that needs an experienced Payroll Clerk to join its busy payroll team in Manchester. The role offers the chance to manage multiple client payrolls in a fast‑paced environment while delivering accurate, high‑quality service.

Key responsibilities

• Process end‑to‑end weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls for a portfolio of clients.
• Handle starters, leavers, P45s, P60s and statutory deductions such as SSP, SMP, holiday pay and student loans.
• Submit RTI information to HMRC accurately and on time.
• Administer auto‑enrolment pensions and upload data to providers (e.g., NEST, People's Pension, Aviva).
• Process Attachment of Earnings Orders, Court Orders and CIS deductions where required.
• Carry out payroll reconciliations, year‑end procedures and maintain GDPR‑compliant records.
• Resolve payroll queries and liaise directly with clients and HMRC.

Required profile

• 2‑3 years of payroll experience within an accountancy practice or payroll bureau.
• Strong knowledge of end‑to‑end payroll processing and current legislation.
• Experience with RTI submissions, pension administration and statutory payments.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build client relationships.
• High level of accuracy, attention to detail and proactive problem‑solving.
