Payroll Senior

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Senior to join a growing accountancy practice in Torquay. The role involves managing a portfolio of payroll clients and supporting the wider accounts team, with flexible full‑time or part‑time options.

Key responsibilities

• Process weekly, fortnightly, four‑weekly and monthly payrolls for a varied client portfolio.
• Manage new starters, leavers, statutory payments, pensions and auto‑enrolment.
• Submit FPS, EPS and other HMRC payroll filings.
• Respond to client payroll queries and maintain high service standards.
• Ensure payroll records are accurate and compliant with legislation.
• Process pension submissions and maintain documentation.
• Assist with VAT return preparation and support the accounts team during busy periods.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships.

Required profile

• Previous payroll experience, preferably within an accountancy practice or payroll bureau.
• Strong working knowledge of BrightPay.
• Some experience with VAT return preparation.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and client‑facing abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
• Proactive and positive attitude, willing to support the wider team.
