Payroll Specialist – £34,000 per annum – 4 days remote

About the role

We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to join the community hub team in Leatherhead. The role offers a six‑month fixed‑term contract with a competitive salary of £34,000 per year and the flexibility to work from home four days a week.

Key responsibilities

• Enter and maintain payroll data in the HRIS, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Perform daily quality checks and produce cyclical salary reports, highlighting any anomalies.
• Manage escalated queries from the payroll inbox and mentor front‑line staff in resolution.
• Calculate and recover salary over‑payments with an empathetic approach.
• Support the Head of Payroll in finalising the monthly pay cycle and processing third‑party deductions.
• Maintain absence schedules and ensure accurate record‑keeping.
• Review monthly pay data, remove duplicate or erroneous entries and liaise with managers to resolve issues.
• Analyse complex queries requiring manual calculations and escalate when necessary.
• Identify risks and inefficiencies and propose mitigation actions.

Required profile

• Experience with MHR iTrent is desirable.
• Background in a complex pay landscape with multiple terms, conditions and TUPE situations.
• Intermediate Excel skills, including look‑ups, pivot tables and IF statements.
• Strong knowledge of payroll legislation and compliance.
• Comfort handling high‑volume transactions and enquiries.
• Experience of DC pension administration is a plus.
