Payroll Specialist – £35,000 per year, Manchester

About the role

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional to join a growing organisation in Manchester. You will work within a supportive team to ensure employees are paid accurately and on time while delivering a high level of service to internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Process payroll accurately and meet agreed deadlines.
• Maintain employee payroll records and ensure data accuracy.
• Calculate statutory payments, deductions, pensions, overtime, bonuses and adjustments.
• Process new starters, leavers, salary changes and other employee updates.
• Ensure compliance with HMRC, pension regulations and company policies.
• Reconcile payroll data, resolve discrepancies and support month‑end/year‑end activities.
• Respond to payroll queries from employees and managers promptly.
• Collaborate with HR and Finance to keep payroll information consistent.
• Identify and implement improvements to payroll processes.

Required profile

• Previous experience working in payroll within the UK.
• Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, tax, National Insurance and statutory payments.
• Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlines.
• Proactive problem‑solver with strong communication and customer service skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with payroll systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
