Pension Fund Risk Manager – Employer Risk & Funding

About the role

The Pension Fund Risk Manager will lead the proactive management of employer‑related risks for a local government pension scheme in Wiltshire. You will ensure accurate employer contributions, monitor financial solvency and covenant risk, and support the long‑term sustainability of the fund.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and escalate emerging employer‑related risks across the pension fund.
• Monitor and verify employer contribution payments, ensuring timely and accurate receipt.
• Assess employer solvency and covenant risk, developing mitigation strategies for high‑risk organisations.
• Manage admission of new employers, providing advice on legislation, funding arrangements, guarantees and bonds.
• Lead employer cessation processes, handling financial, legislative and administrative requirements.
• Provide specialist advice on employer reorganisations, mergers, de‑mergers and bulk transfers in collaboration with actuaries.
• Maintain and apply employer‑related policies such as Funding Strategy Statement and Employer Charging Policy.
• Build strong relationships with over 170 scheme employers and deliver presentations, updates and training on pension risk matters.
• Maintain contribution schedules aligned with actuarial guidance and support employer engagement activities.
• Develop and maintain risk management processes, monitoring covenant strength and emerging policy or economic developments.

Required profile

• Proven experience in pension fund risk management or related financial risk roles.
• Strong understanding of pension legislation, funding strategies and covenant assessment.
• Ability to work with actuaries, stakeholders and a large employer base.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills for presenting complex risk information.
