Pensions Actuarial Associate Consultant

About the role

Our client, a leading UK actuarial and consulting firm, is seeking a Pensions Actuarial Associate Consultant to join its Defined Benefit pensions team in London. The role offers exposure to a wide range of pension schemes, from small arrangements to multi‑billion‑pound funds, and provides the chance to develop both technical and client‑facing consulting skills in a supportive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare actuarial valuations for funding, solvency, Section 179 and pension risk management exercises.
• Support pension risk transfer, buy‑in feasibility projects and related analysis.
• Attend client meetings, present findings and recommendations.
• Manage and review work produced by junior team members.
• Calculate individual member benefits, transfer values and pension payouts.
• Produce actuarial factors such as early/late retirement and commutation rates.
• Prepare pension accounting disclosures under IAS 19 and US GAAP.
• Assist with data validation, benefit correction and equalisation projects.
• Liaise with pension administrators and other professional advisers to ensure successful delivery.

Required profile

• Part‑qualified FIA status or equivalent actuarial qualification in progress.
• Previous experience in a UK pensions actuarial consulting environment.
• Good understanding of current developments affecting the UK pensions market.
• Strong analytical ability and meticulous attention to detail.
• Proven experience preparing actuarial calculations and communicating results clearly.
• Ability to review and delegate work to junior colleagues effectively.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with confidence presenting to clients.
